Kathmandu, Jan 26: Nepal are set to face Scotland this morning in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier. The match will be played at the Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground, starting at 9:00 am.
The two teams are meeting in a competitive fixture for the first time.
However, Nepal’s path to the Super Six stage remains challenging. Even if Nepal defeat the stronger Scottish side, they will need a big-margin victory and favorable results from other matches to advance.
Nepal’s slim hope of reaching the Super Six was revived after their six-wicket sensational victory over Test Playing team Zimbabwe on Saturday. Chasing a target of 130 runs, Nepal rode on an unbeaten half-century from Puja Mahato to secure the win.
Earlier, Nepal had suffered defeats in their first two matches—losing by eight wickets to Thailand and by thrilling two runs to the Netherlands—results that placed the Nepali women’s team under pressure.
Scotland, who are also in Group B, will qualify for the Super Six with a win today.
Ireland have already secured a Super Six spot from Group B by winning all three of their matches. Scotland and Thailand each have two wins from three matches and occupy second and third positions respectively, while Nepal have only two points from three games. Zimbabwe are at the bottom of the group after losing all their matches.
Later today, the Netherlands will face Thailand in another Group B fixture. If Nepal defeat Scotland with wider margin and the Netherlands beat Thailand, Nepal, Scotland and Thailand will each have four points. In that scenario, the two teams with the best net run rate will advance to the Super Six. #nepal #cricket
