
Kathmandu, March 19: The 8th edition of the Nepal International Film Festival (NIFF) is set to take place in Kathmandu from March 20 to 24.
A total of 87 films from 40 countries have been selected for the festival, which is being organized by the Nepal Film and Cultural Foundation, according to Festival Chair KP Pathak.
Themed “Festival of Stories from All Over the World, Nepal International Film Festival,” this year’s edition aims to be more impactful than previous ones. “We have carefully selected films to attract movie enthusiasts,” Pathak said. “The festival will provide a platform for filmmakers worldwide to connect, exchange ideas, and collaborate.”
As a special highlight, the festival will feature a ‘Russian Film Day’ on the third day, Saturday.
Awards and Categories
The festival is divided into two main categories: national and international.
- Best Film (International Category) – Gautam Buddha Award along with a prize of $1,500
- Best National & International Film – Don Quixote Award, presented by the Federation of International Film Societies
- Best Film (Competition Category) – Rs 100,000 and a trophy
- Best Short Film & Best Documentary – Rs 50,000 each and a trophy
- Best International Documentary – Mount Everest Award with $1,000
- Best International Short Film – Bagmati Award with $500
- Best AI Technology Film – Manjushree Award with $500
