Nepal Police issues Red Corner Notice against absconding Mayor Nepali



Kathmandu, Jan 26: Nepal Police has issued a ‘Red Corner Notice’ against Dev Kumar Nepali, the Mayor of Baglung’s Dhorpatan Municipality and the founder president of Image Savings and Credit Cooperative, who is absconding after misappropriating the cooperative’s savings.

Baglung’s Deputy Superintendent of Police Madan KC informed that the Interpol Division of Nepal Police Headquarters has issued a ‘Red Corner Notice’ against Nepali. Sources said that Mayor Nepali has misappropriated nearly Rs. 1.5 billion of the depositors.

Mayor Nepali including with his family members was out of contact from Burtiwang market since Jestha 5, 2080. The police has issued a ‘Red Corner Notice’ on suspicion of hiding abroad. He has collected a large amount of money from the branch offices in Galkot, Burtiwang and Pokhara along with the main office in Baglung Bazar. The District Police Office had already sent a letter to Interpol to issue a Red Corner Notice.

A total of 1,481 people have filed a complaint against cooperative owners including Nepali. According to KC, preliminary research has shown that cooperatives in Baglung alone have embezzled the savings of 800 share members and 3,200 savers amounting to Rs. 1.5 billion.

A case was registered in the district court in Baglung on against 11 owners including Mayor Nepali who owns a house in Dhorpatan-1. The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police wrote a letter to the District Police Office to continue the investigation against the Acting President of Image Cooperative Dor Bahadur Pariyar, Secretary Sunil Nepali, Treasurer Laxmi Sen and Board Members Chitra Bahadur Bhandari, Rupa BK and Jhag Bahadur Shahi after the Mayor Nepali lost contact.

The court has ordered the detention of director Bhandari, staff manager Shakti Kisan and employee Lalmati Roka, who were arrested for embezzling billions of money from the cooperative’s savers. The District Police has arrested treasurer Sen on Friday itself. #Nepal
