Kathmandu, Jan 18: Nepal suffered an eight-wicket defeat at the hands of Thailand in their opening match of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier.
In the match played at the Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground, Kirtipur, Thailand comfortably chased the target of 123 runs set by Nepal, reaching the total for the loss of two wickets in 16.5 overs.
Nathakan Chantham led Thailand’s chase with an unbeaten 57 off 29 balls, which included nine fours and a six. Nanpat Koncharonkai contributed 32 runs, while Afisra Suwanchonrathi added 28.
For Nepal, Sita Ranamagar claimed both wickets to fall.
Earlier, Nepal, after losing the toss and being asked to bat first, were all out for 122 runs in their allotted 20 overs.
Bindu Rawal was the top scorer for Nepal with 44 runs off 56 balls, including four fours. Samjhana Khadka scored a quick 26 off 11 balls, while Rubina Khatri added 17 runs off 10 balls, hitting two sixes and a four. Pooja Mahato chipped in with 12 runs. None of the other Nepalese batters managed to reach double figures.
For Thailand, Thipatcha Puthawang was the most successful bowler, taking three wickets. Onnita Kamchomple picked up two wickets, while Chaninda Suttharuwang, Suliporn Laomi and Sunida Chaturugratan claimed one wicket each.
Nepal will face the Netherlands in their second match of the tournament on January 22. #nepal #cricket
