Kathmandu, Sept 23: Canada defeated Nepal by 5 wickets in the ICC Men’s World Cup League-2 match, climbing to the top of the points table.
Chasing a target of modest 182 runs, Canada reached the total in 42 overs with key contributions from Navneet Dhaliwal, who scored 87 runs off 113 balls, and Pargat Singh, who added 64 off 83 balls. The duo shared a pivotal 122-run partnership for the second wicket.
Sandeep Lamichhane took 2 wicket while Karan KC, Gulshan Jha and Lalit Rajbanshi took 1 wicket each.
Nepal, after electing to bat first, was bowled out for 181 runs in 46.1 overs. Sandeep Lamichhane led the scoring with 49 off 48 balls, while Gulshan Jha added 34 runs. Sandeep and Sompal Kami put together a crucial 55-run partnership for the eighth wicket, helping Nepal recover from a precarious 87-7. However, Canada’s bowling attack, led by Kalim Sana who took 3 wickets, proved too strong.
Earlier, Canada defeated Nepal by 103 in the first match and Oman by 1 wicket in the second match. Nepal will play the last match against Oman on Tuesday.
With this victory, Canada leads the table with 14 points from 11 matches, while Nepal lingers in seventh place with just 2 points from 7 games.
