Nepali Congress President Deuba claim for Prime Minister

KATHMANDU: Opposition parties have reached Sheetal Niwas, the President’s Office, to demand the formation of a new government as per Article 76 (5) of the Constitution.

Leaders have reached Sheetal Niwas with the signatures of 149 lawmakers demanding the appointment of Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba as the Prime Minister.

Deuba has the support of Nepali Congress, CPN (Maoist Centre), Madhav Kumar Nepal faction of the CPN (UML) and Baburam Bhattarai-Upendra Yadav faction of Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP).

According to MC leader Barshaman Pun, 149 lawmakers have signed in favor of Deuba. The agreement has been signed by 61 members of the Congress, 49 members of the Maoist Centre (including one independent), 26 members of the Madhav Nepal faction, 12 members of the JSP and one member of the Rastriya Janamorcha.

President Bidya Devi Bhandari has given time till 5 pm today to present the basis for obtaining a majority in the parliament to appoint the prime minister as per Article 76 (5) of the Constitution.
