KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) General Secretary Netra Bikram Chanda ‘Biplav’ met on Monday evening at the PM’s official resident, Baluwatar.

According to the CPN (Maoist) central member Uday Bahadur Chalaune,  the meeting focused on the release of prisoners as per the three-point agreement.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Oli informed that the process has started as per the agreement and that the prisoners will be released gradually, said Chalaune. According to the CPN (Maoist), 148 leaders and cadres are still in jail.

The CPN (Maoist) spokesperson Khadga Bahadur Bishwakarma was also present at the meeting.

The three-point agreement reached between the government and the CPN (Maoist) on March 5 states that the prisoners will be released gradually. However, as per the agreement, Chanda had gone to Baluwatar to meet Prime Minister Oli saying that the release of the detainee was delayed.

On March 5, there was an agreement between the government and the Chanda-led party that the CPN (Maoist) would enter peaceful politics, lift the ban on the party, release the imprisoned CPN (Maoist) leaders and cadres and dismiss the entire case.
