Kathmandu, Aug 15: Two parliamentary committees looking to fill the vacant post of chairperson have got one each candidate nominated for those committees.
The Parliamentary Hearing Committee and Monitoring and Evaluation of the Implementation of the Directive Principles, Policies and Obligations of the State Committee under the Federal Parliament have received one candidate each for presidency.
Nepali Congress leader Ishwori Devi Neupane has been nominated to be appointed as the chair the Parliamentary Hearing Committee while CPN (UML)’s leader Thakur Prasad Gaire has been nominated for the President post of the Monitoring and Evaluation of the Implementation of the Directive Principles, Policies and Obligations of the State Committee, according to the Federal Parliament Secretariat.
The press statement issued by the Secretariat’s General-Secretary Padma Prasad Pandey said that Shyam Kumar Ghimire proposed leader Neupane, also the member of the same committee, for the presidency which was seconded by Sunital Baral.
Similarly, Sarswati Subba proposed leader Gaire, also the member of the same committee, for the presidency which was seconded by Dilendra Prasad Badu, the statement mentioned.
Election for the Chairpersons of the Committees is scheduled to be held on coming August 15, the press statement read. The meeting of the committees would see those proposing the candidates presenting the proposal in the tomorrow’s meeting for the further procedure.
The Parliamentary Hearing Committee did not have President for nearly a year and half since the last parliamentary election in November, 2022. In the absence of the President, the senior most member of the Committee had been presiding over the meetings.
Meanwhile, the Monitoring and Evaluation of the Implementation of the Directive Principles, Policies and Obligations of the State Committee is the newest committee that was formed on July 31 this year.
