Newly-elected House of Representatives members take oath



Kathmandu: House of Representatives (HoR) seniormost member Pashupati Shumsher JB Rana administered the oath of office and secrecy to newly-elected members of the lower house of the Federal Parliament.

The oath-taking ceremony was held at the New Baneshwor-based Federal Parliament Building and Rana as the HoR seniormost member administered oath to other members.

The members-elect reached the Federal Parliament Building on national uniform and respective cultural attires to take oath. According to the Federal Parliament Secretariat, 26 members took oath in different 14 mother tongues.

In accordance with the Article 88 of the Constitution, every member of each House of the Federal Parliament must, before taking part for the first time in the session of the House or any of its committees, take an oath as provided for in the Federal law.

Octogenarian member Rana took oath before President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Wednesday as the HoR seniormost by age.

Prior to the oath taking ceremony, in a meeting summoned by him, Federal Parliament Secretariat general secretary Dr Bharat Raj Gautam briefed the newly elected members about the oath taking procedures.

 

The 275-member HoR is a body of 165 directly elected members and 110 Proportional Representation (PR) members.

Before the oath taking ceremony, general secretary Gautam congratulated and best wishes to all the members-elect.

Federal Parliament Secretariat organizes reception for new members

The Federal Parliament Secretariat hosted a reception today in honour of the new members in the House of Representatives (HoR).

The reception was organised on the premises of the Federal Parliament Building shortly after the oath-taking ceremony of newly elected lawmakers.

Prior to this, HoR seniormost member by age Pashupati Shumsher JB Rana administered oath of office and secrecy to newly elected members in the lower house.

The Article 88 of the Constitution states every member of each House of the Federal Parliament must, before taking part for the first time in the session of the House or any of its committees, take an oath as provided for in the Federal law.

Before the oath-taking ceremony, Federal Parliament Secretariat secretary general Dr Bharat Raj Gautam congratulated and extended best wishes to all the MPs-elect.

The 275-member HoR is a body of 165 directly elected members and 110 Proportional Representation (PR) members elected through the elections to the HoR and Province Assembly. The voting for the twin elections was held on November 20.
