NHRC asks stakeholders to resolve issues thru talks in Sarlahi incident

Kathmandu, Jan 7: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has asked the agitating side to resolve the issues of Sarlahi incident through talks and consultations.

The NHRC has urged the agitating side to seek solution of the ongoing disputes caused after the demise of Jay Shanker Shah happened in a clash erupted between the demonstrators and security persons as the locals demonstrated for upgrading a primary health centre of Barahathawa Municipality-6.

It is said that the police had resorted to blank firing and lobbing tear gas shells to contain the situation where demonstrators had pelted stones at the residencial building of Barahathawa Municipality Mayor Kalpana Katuwal, and municipality office.

The NHRC has said that the Madhes Province Office at Janakpur is carrying out monitoring of the incident.

Issuing a press statement, NHRC Spokesperson Dr Tikaram Pokharel said that a fair and independent probe of the incident and legal actions to the perpetrators were needed and has asked the government to ensure appropriate compensation to the deceased family and treatment to the injured ones.

The NHRC has also urged the government to ensure law and order and enable environment not to repeat such incidents in future. #Nepal
