NHRC begins Investigation into alleged abuse by Police of Leader Lamichhane

Kathmandu, Dec 10: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRCH has started an investigation into the alleged abuse of President of Rastriya Swatantra Party Rabi Lamichhane by police.

The investigation begins after a complaint was filed before the NHRC stating that the former Home Minister, currently in custody on a cooperatives fraud case, was subjected to inhumane treatment and violation of human rights while being taken to Kaski from Chitwan. As claimed in the complaint, the NHRC has started an investigation into the inhumane treatment of Lamichhane by the order of the Inspector General of Police while being taken to Kaski in the middle of the night.

The NHRC today invited Additional Inspector General of Nepal Police, Tek Bahadur Tamang, and other the senior police officers to its Central Office in Kathmandu to inquire about the incident, according to a statement released by the Commission here today.

NHRC spokesperson Dr Tikaram Pokharel has said that the NHRC is continuing its investigation as it needs to understand more about the matter with the Inspector General of Police to reach a conclusion.

RSP Chair Lamichhane brought to Parsa

Meanwhile, Chairperson of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Rabi Lamichhane, has been brought to Parsa for recording his statement. Lamichane has been charged of involvement in embezzlement of cooperative savings.

He was brought to Parsa from Pokhara by air on Monday in course of investigation on the charge of his involvement in misusing the savings of Birgunj-based Sano Paila Cooperatives.

Parsa District Court on December 4 had issued an arrest warrant against 14 people including Lamichhane on Sano Paila Cooperative cheating scam.

Deputy Superintendent of Police at the District Police Office, Kishore Lamsal, said Lamichhane was brought to Parsa for further investigation into the case.

Recording statements of Lamichhane at different districts was underway after Kaski, Rupandehi, Kathmandu and Chitwan District Courts issued arrest warrant against him. #rabi #NHRC
