KATHMANDU, Dec 10: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has decided to honour human rights activist Dr Renu Adhikari with ‘Dayaram Memorial Human Rights Award’ and journalist Jhalak Gaire with ‘Human Rights Award’ for this year.
NHRC Spokesperson Dr Tikaram Pokhrel shared that the awards carry a purse of Rs 5,000.
The announcement was made on the occasion of the International Human Rights Day on Thursday.
Dr Adhikari is the founder of Women Rehabilitation Centre and has been working for gender justice and equality and minimization of violence against women for three decades.
Similarly, Gaire is the Chief Editor of Nepalgunj daily published from Nepalgunj city. He has also contributed to protection and promotion of human rights via journalism.
The NHRC decided to honour them in recognition to their contribution to human rights sector.
