Kathmandu, May 27: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has released the much-awaited report of a committee formed to investigate human rights violations during the September 8 and 9, 2025 incidents. The Commission uploaded the report in it’s website (https://www.nhrcnepal.org/) and wrote a letter to the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers to take necessary action as pointed by the Commission.
The committee, coordinated by commission member Lily Thapa, has concluded that former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, and former Minister for Information and Communications Prithvi Subba Gurung were also found responsible for human rights violations. The commission has recommended action against them under new legislation, including a provision restricting them from contesting elections or holding political appointments for at least five years, barring them from administrative responsibilities for at least three years, and imposing a three-year restriction on foreign travel.
The report also recommends departmental action against senior security officials, including then AIG Dan Bahadur Karki (now Inspector General of Nepal Police), AIG Om Rana, SSP Bishwa Adhikari, then Additional Inspector General of Armed Police Force Narayan Prasad Poudel, SP Jeevan K.C., National Investigation Department official Krishna Khanal, and then Chief District Officer of Kathmandu, Chhabilal Rijal.
The commission further noted shortcomings on the part of the Nepal Army during the Gen Z movement incidents.
Likewise, many social media influencers, journalists, YouTubers, content creaters including former Prime Minister Sushila Karki, former Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal, Judge Gauri Bahadur Karki, former Secretary Bhim Upadhayaya, Ganesh Karki, Bablu Gupta, Shulav Kharel, Manish Jha, Dipak Bohora, Jwala Sangroula, KP Khanal, Ashika Tamang.
Others include Raksha Bam, Krishna Karki, Dr. Toshima Karki, Rajiv Khatri, Som Sharma, Hemraj Thapa, Bimal Pant, Khemraj Saud, Purushottam Yadav, Hami Nepal organization chair Sudhan Gurung, Aman Pratap Adhikari, Bibek Thapaliya, Sisan Baniya, Asim Man Basnet, Bhagya Neupane, Tanka Dahal, Victor Paudel, Ankit Malla, Umesh Bohora, Shiva Yadav, Binod Deuba, Saru Sunuwar, Ravi Kiran Hamal, Hari Dhakal, Nischal Basnet, Pashupati Khadka, Durga Prasai, Urja Baral, Jerry Tamrakar, Hemsagar Bidrohi, Buddha Chhiring, Santosh Rajawadi, Amit Khanal, Deepak Devkota, Gaurab Baral, Himani Rajya Laxmi Singh, Nishan Mainali, among others.
These prominent influencers were mostly associated to Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP). Some have already won House election.
However, the report didn’t mention about the Prime Minister Balendra Shah, who was writing regularly against former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and his government. Even during and after the protest, he was calling youths to further move ahead to overthrow the government and the established political system. #Nepal
