Nine people succumbed to death in Kaski landslide



Pokhara, July 12: Nine people, including seven from the same family, died in a landslide in Pokhara after incessant rain.

Two people have gone missing in the landslide, police said.

Spokesman of the District Police Office Kaski Basant Kumar Sharma informed that when the house of 47-year-old Kul Bahadur Pariyar of Pokhara Metropolitan City-19 Purunchaur Tallakot was swept away by a landslide, seven members of the same family died on the spot.

Kul Bahadur along with his mother Laxima (85), wife Mankumari (43), daughter Prashana (15), Prabha (20), son-in-law Asmit Pariyar (25) and daughter Radhika Pariyar died in the landslide.

It is said that the landslide happened last night at 10:30 pm when all the family members were sitting together. Police said that two people were rescued safely in the incident.

Similarly, Anita Ojha (18) and nine-year-old Prateek Subedi died when a landslide destroyed Aarti Ojha’s house in Chainpur in Pokhara-32, police said. Anuska Ojha (11)  is missing.

According to the police, 80-year-old Maiti Kumari Gurung, who was buried in a landslide in Madi rural municipality-11, also went missing in a landslide.

Police said that Om Bahadur Gurung, who was caught in the landslide, was rescued safely.

Police informed that the bodies of all those who died in the landslide have been kept at the Western Regional Hospital under the Pokhara Institute of Health Sciences for post-mortem.

It is said that the search for the missing in the landslide is underway.

A team of Nepal Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and locals have been engaged in search and rescue. #nepal #landslide
