Kathmandu, Dec 6: Pokhara Avengers have secured their first victory in the Nepal Premier League (NPL). In the second match played today at the Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground, Kirtipur, Pokhara thrashed Lumbini Lions by 10 wickets.
Chasing a Lumbini’s competitive target of 171 runs, Pokhara completed the target in just 16.5 overs without losing any wickets. Both openers delivered impressive performances. For Pokhara, Andries Gous played a brilliant innings, scoring a century. He made 104* runs off 55 balls, hitting 5 sixes and 12 fours. Gauss became the first player in NPL history to score a century and set the record for the highest score in the league so far.
Pokhara’s other opener, Dinesh Kharel, also made an excellent contribution, scoring an unbeaten 61 runs. He faced 46 balls, hitting 4 sixes and 4 fours. Pokhara also received 11 extra runs in this match. This was Pokhara’s first win in the NPL.
Earlier, Lumbini, after winning the toss and opting to bat, posted a total of 170/5 in their 20 overs. Captain Rohit Paudel played a solid knock, scoring 95* runs off 59 balls, including 4 sixes and 10 fours. Tom Moores contributed 45 runs, while Sandeep Jora and Bibek Yadav scored 18 and 2 runs, respectively. Lumbini’s Ashutosh Ghiraiya and Unmukt Chand were dismissed for zero runs. Lumbini also received 10 extra runs in the match.
For Pokhara, Bipin Khatri took 2 wickets, while Matt Critchley claimed 1 wicket. This was Lumbini’s second loss in the tournament, having previously been defeated by Biratnagar Kings by 2 wickets. #nepal #NPL #Gous
