One held while seeking Rs 1.6m in ransom after minor’s kidnap



Bhaktapur: Police arrested a 20-year-old youth while seeking Rs 1.6 million in ransom to release a six-year-old lady after her abduction from her school on Sunday afternoon.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Dipak Giri said that the kidnapper is Ashish Thapa of Lalbandi Municipality in Sarlahi district and currently living in Madhyapur Thimi Municipality in Bhaktapur and is a bachelor’s level student as NASA International College in the capital city.

DSP Giri said that Thapa visited the six-year-old girl’s Glory English School at 12:15 noon on Sunday and received her from the school by calling himself the student’s guardian.

The police rescued the girl four hours after she was kidnapped.

The kidnapper phoned the girl’s father at 3:00 pm from Ghyamedanda at Suryabinayak Municipality asking to pay Rs 1.6 million in ransom adding that anything could happen if the money was not given.

Police arrested the kidnapper from Thimi-based Bhatbhateni Supermarket when he was coming there to collect the ransom money from the girl’s parents.
