Rautahat, Jan 13: Paddy production in Rautahat district has declined significantly this year compared to the previous year, primarily due to adverse weather conditions during the harvesting season.
According to Surendra Prasad Kurmi, Acting Chief of the District Agriculture Knowledge Centre, paddy output in the district fell by 21,578 metric tonnes this year. He attributed the decline mainly to incessant rainfall that occurred during the first week of October, coinciding with the peak harvesting period.
The district recorded a total paddy production of 95,130 metric tonnes this year, down from 116,708 metric tonnes last year. Paddy cultivation covered approximately 31,500 hectares of land, with an average productivity of 3.02 metric tonnes per hectare, Kurmi said.
In addition to heavy rainfall, flooding in the Bakaiya and Bagmati rivers caused extensive damage to paddy fields that were nearly ready for harvest. More than 17,600 hectares of farmland were affected by the floods.
Farmers in Rajdevi, Paroha, Rajpur, Madhav Narayan, Gadhimai, Ishnath, Maulapur, and Durga Bhagawati municipalities suffered significant losses due to the combined impact of rainfall and flooding during the first week of October. #nepal #paddy
