Palikhe Journalism Award to Basnet, Baral



Pokhara, April 28: Senior journalist Surya Chandra Basnet, and BBC Nepali Service journalist Krishnamani Baral have been selected for the Democratic Fighter Dayashankar Palikhe Journalism Award.

The award, established in memory of Daya Shankar Palikhe, carries a cash prize of Rs 101,111 along with a letter of appreciation. Basnet will receive the award for the year 2081 BS, while Baral has been chosen for 2082 BS.

The selection committee had recommended both journalists earlier, and the decision was formally endorsed by a meeting of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ), Kaski, on Monday. The award, instituted by the Palikhe family, has been institutionalised by FNJ Kaski.

According to FNJ Kaski Secretary Bhupal Gurung, the awards will be presented on May 5, marking Palikhe’s memorial day.

Basnet, originally from Damauli, Byas Municipality–2 in Tanahun, has been active in journalism for around three decades. Before joining RSS news agency in 2056 BS, he worked with several publications, including Rastrapukar Weekly, Himalaya Times, Nepal Samacharpatra, and Adarsha Samaj Daily.

Similarly, Baral, from Nuwarthok of Pokhara Metropolitan City–7, has been engaged in journalism since 2055 BS. He has worked with outlets such as Annapurna Post Daily, Himalaya Times, Samadhan Daily, Deshantar Weekly, and Nepali Times, as well as enaturenews.com.

FNJ Kaski stated that both journalists are being honoured in recognition of their contributions to society, the nation, and democracy through journalism. #Nepal
