Parliamentary committee wants government to comfort stranded passengers

Kathmandu, Oct 1: The State Affairs and Good Governance Committee, House of Representatives (HoR), has directed the government to immediately rescue those passengers left stranded on various highways due to disruptions caused by the recent monsoon-induced flooding and landslides.

A meeting of the Committee today urged the government to facilitate the stranded passengers to reach their destinations.

The meeting directed the government to restore the disrupted highways and also manage alternative routes for the movement of passengers.

Drawing the government’s attention to an ‘unusual rise’ of air fare amidst the disruptions of roadways by the disasters, the parliamentary Committee wanted the government to monitor the fare rates, ensure flight service to those districts lacking access to roads, prevent possible supplies on daily consumers on the black market, an artificial shortage of goods and unusual price rise, according to Committee President Ramhari Khatiwada.
