Kathmandu, Sept 1: The Parliamentary Hearing Committee conducted hearing of the proposed ambassadorial candidates for India, China, Germany and Denmark on Sunday.
The committee conducted the hearing of Prof Krishna Prasad Oli (China), Dr Shankar Sharma (India), Dr Shail Rupakheti (Germany) and Sumnima Tuladhar (Denmark).
The Cabinet meeting on July 29 had nominated 17 ambassadorial candidates for various countries.
Among them, four proposed ambassador nominees presented their experience, thoughts and concepts in the meeting. They outlined their vision for enhancing bilateral relations between Nepal and respective countries they are nominated for if they assume the roles as the ambassadors.
Dr Sharma, proposed ambassador to India, noted that Nepal and India shared a ‘unique’ friendship due to open borders, common cultures, economic interdependence and people-to-people relations.
He stated that India is Nepal’s biggest trading partner and major source of tourists, sole supplier of petroleum products and the largest source of foreign investment. He clarified that the issue of handing over the EPG report and issue of border have nothing to do from the level of Ambassador. “Now, it’s a matter of higher political level.”
Similarly, the proposed ambassador to China Prof Dr Oli highlighted the longstanding and close tie between Nepal and China and attributed the closeness between the two countries and exchanges in the areas of philosophy, Buddhism, knowledge and significant historical visits of prominent individuals.
According to him, economic relations and cooperation between the two countries have been expanded to various fields, including high-level visits, trade, education, tourism, construction of physical infrastructures, investment and grant.
He, thus, presented his action-plan aimed at further strengthening economic ties and cooperation between the two countries.
Likewise, Dr Shail Rupakheti, proposed ambassador to Germany, pledged to deliver on economic diplomacy, high-level visits between the two countries and attract investment to Nepal provided his name is approved by the committee.
Mentioning that some 10,000 Nepalis were currently in Germany pursuing various professions, he expressed his commitment to make efforts to secure permission for the Nepal Airlines to operate its flights in the European sky for the direct flight between Nepal and Germany during his ambassadorial stint.
Also, during the presentation, the proposed ambassador to Denmark, Sumnima Tuladhar mentioned that Nepal had been receiving continuous support from Denmark in Nepal’s economic development owing to strong ties between the two countries. #hearing #rss
