People’s movement disrupted above Namche after flood

Solukhumbu, Aug 17: People’s movement above Namche in Solukhumbu district has been disrupted after the flood.

District Police Office Namche said that the flood that occurred in the Thame rivulet on Friday cut off the tourist route from Phakding to Namche. With this, the lower belt has been disconnected to the Everest region.

According to Deputy Inspector of Police Hem Bahadur Katwal, the trail along Phakding and Namche was damaged in the stretch of 100 meters in two places owing to the flooded rivulet. It has resulted in disruption of traffic from Lukla to Namche.

He added that the only footpath to the Everest trail was blocked after the Bhotekoshi eroded it.

The flood washed away 20 houses and hotels, a health post and a school in Khumbu Pasang Lhamu rural municipality-5.

A joint force of Nepali Army and Nepal Police rescued 93 people from Thame and kept them in a house behind the Army camp, while 42 people sheltered in a local community building, Deputy Superintendent of Police Dwarika Prasad Ghimire said. #rss #flood #everest
