Prime Minister Deuba, Maoist Chairman Prachanda hold meeting

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and Chairman of the CPN (Maoist Centre), Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ held meeting today.

During the meeting held at the official residence of the Prime Minister at Baluwatar, Prime Minister Deuba urged Chairman Prachanda to extend their support as discussions on US aid project- Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) compact are about to start in the House of Representatives.

PM Deuba’s press chief, Govinda Pariyar, said that PM Deuba requested Chairman Prachanda to help pass the MCC compact.

Chairman Prachanda reached Baluwatar to meet PM Deuba soon after holding meeting with Chairman of the CPN (Unified Socialist), Madhav Kumar Nepal, and senior leader Jhalanath Khanal at Singh Durbar.

During the meeting held at Singh Durbar, the leaders discussed on how to move ahead regarding MCC compact as agenda has been set to hold discussion on MCC in today’s HoR meeting, it is learnt. The HoR meeting has been called at 1:00 pm today.

Meanwhile, the protest against MCC has already began at the Baneshwor area, in front of House of Parliament building.

Leader of the CPN (Maoist Center) and CPN (Unified Socialist) have been voicing against the MCC. They argue that the compact should not be brought to the parliamentary approval. Their youth and student wings have been found involved in protest.

The government has mobilised a huge police force there in Baneshwor area to maintain law and order.

Prime Minister Deuba in intense discussion on forming broader consensus among political parties, including main opposition CPN-UML. In this connection, PM Deuba has met with CPN UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli several times to expedite possible solution on MCC, including smooth operation of House of Representatives. The CPN UML is obstructing the House for a long time, and hindering the smooth business of the House.
