PM joins cultural event, plays the Sarangi and Bansuri



Kathmandu: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli attended the ‘Sarangi evening’ programme at his official residence in Baluwatar this evening.

The programme on the Sarangi, the folk musical instrument of the country was hosted by the Madan Bhandari Art and Literature Academy with support of the Nepal Academy of Music and Drama (NAMUDA).

On the occasion, Prime Minister Oli also played the Sarangi and Bansuri, or the flute, according to General Secretary of the Academy Dr Devi Nepal.

The Prime Minister was later joined by former Prime Ministers and NCP Leaders Jhalanath Khanal and Madhav Kumar Nepal, who played the Sarangi to tune with their party chairman in the flute.

At the cultural event, 10 kinds of tunes were played representing the Palam music of Limbu ethnic group in the east to the Deuda in the far-west. Artists from the NAMUDA played the different indigenous tunes.

Majority of the members of the cabinet were present at the programme.
