Kathmandu, Oct 21: Prime Minister Sushila Karki is holding an electoral dialogue today with the top seven political parties represented in the dissolved House of Representatives to discuss the upcoming elections scheduled for March 5, 2026.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, PM Karki sent formal invitations to all seven parties, requesting each to send two senior representatives to the meeting, which will take place at Baluwatar, PM’s residence, at 4 p.m.
The current government, formed with the primary mandate to conduct elections, has initiated this dialogue to foster political consensus among the nationally recognized parties from the dissolved House.
Political parties had been criticizing the government for failing to create a conducive election environment. In response, the Prime Minister has invited them for formal discussions to break the deadlock.
Although the CPN-UML has been advocating to boycot next general election and demanding the restoration of the dissolved House of Representatives as its bottom line, the party is expected to attend today’s meeting. UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel is likely to represent the party, though his participation is yet to be confirmed.
The Nepali Congress will be represented by General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa, while the CPN (Maoist Centre) has also confirmed its participation, describing the Prime Minister’s initiative as a “positive step toward election preparation.”
The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) will be represented by Vice President Dr Swarnim Wagle, and both the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) and Janata Samajbadi Party (JSP) Nepal have confirmed their participation as well.
From the Janamat Party, Chandan Singh will attend the discussion on behalf of his party.
The meeting is expected to focus on ensuring a free, fair, and inclusive electoral process and creating consensus among key political stakeholders ahead of the upcoming elections. #nepal #election
