Kathmandu, Feb 25: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli today inaugurated a newly constructed dental college building of the Jorpati-based Nepal Medical College and Teaching Hospital.
The building was inaugurated on the occasion of the silver jubilee of the hospital.
The college has so far produced 4,098 graduates, including 2,262 MBBS graduates, 335 BDS graduates, 324 graduates under the MD/MS programme, eight under the DM/MCh programme, and 208 BSC and MSC nurses.
Minister for Health and Population, Pradip Paduel, and House of Representatives (HoR) members were present on the occasion.
Speaking at the silver jubilee celebration, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has stated that the country has recently emerged from a dark era into a bright future, urging the youth not to be discouraged.
He emphasized that the country is undergoing extraordinary development. He dismissed claims that nothing has been achieved or that the government has done nothing.
PM Oli clarified that the government is working systematically and thoughtfully to build the nation, rather than acting haphazardly. He stressed the need for public support and cooperation in this journey.
“The government must take care of those who struggle to afford food and clothing. It must ensure education for those who cannot afford it. However, scholarships should not be given to those who can pay for their education. Instead, the government and private institutions should expand infrastructure and quotas to provide a conducive learning environment for both domestic and international students,” said Prime Minister Oli.
He further remarked, “Private schools do not need to be nationalized. Education should not be a playground for manipulation. The situation where 52% of students fail the SEE exam must end.”
Prime Minister Oli also stated that teachers responsible for high failure rates in SEE exams should not expect salary raises. He asserted that teachers who fail to properly educate their students should not blame students for their own shortcomings.
Recalling his previous tenure as Prime Minister, he mentioned laying the foundation stone for 396 basic hospitals at once, while expressing disappointment that the work had not progressed effectively since then.
During the event, Prime Minister Oli also unveiled the Silver Jubilee Souvenir of the hospital. #health #NMC #hospital
