PM Oli to attend SCO Summit, and Victory Parade in China



Kathmandu, Aug 28: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli will be embarking on his second visit to China on Saturday morning. He will attend the high level meeting of China’s flagship Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit to held in Tianjin at the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping. Previously, PM oli visited China in December.

However, PM Oli will also attend a commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the Victory of Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Facist War on September 3. Interestingly, this would be the first moment Nepal is taking part in an event against Japan at the highest political level in a foreign land.

According to Japan’s Kyodo News agency, the Japanese government has requested the European and Asian countries to refrain from attending a military parade. It’s not clear whether Japanese embassy in Kathmandu has informed Nepali side over this issue. Japan is one of the oldest and highest contributing development partner of Nepal, helping the country in multiple ways since 1954.

Nepal’ FDI pledges continues to grow

Nepal received record-high foreign direct investment (FDI) commitments in the past FY 2024/25 which ended on July 15, 2025. According to the Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), the central bank of Nepal, net FDI stood at Rs. 12.02 billion, against commitments of Rs. 64.96 billion.

However, the inflow was an improvement of 41.91% compared to the previous year, but the gap between commitment and and realization continues to be glaring. Experts argue outdated laws, rampant corruption and procedural delays are the key reasons behind this mismatch.

Constitutional Bench formed

The issue of forming the Constitutional Bench at the Supreme Court has been sort out after the month-long discussion. The Chief Justice Mr Prakashman Singh Raut has decided to form the Constitutional Bench through the roster of justices not by seniority. According the Supreme Court, the Chief Justice will form a five member Bench through the list of 10 justices prepared by Judicial Council.

Accordingly, CJ Raut has formed a bench on Wednesday comprising the justices Sapana Pradhan Malla, Nahakul Subedi, Til Prasad Shrestha and Binod Sharma. Previously the CJ used to pick five judges of senior most in the ranking. This special bench has the authority to look matters relating to constitunality of any cases.

Lipulekh issue to be raised with Modi

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli will raise the issue of Lipulekh during a sideline meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Tianjin of China. According to Prithvi Subba Gurung, Nepal government spokesperson and minister of Communication and Information, Lipulekh is our land and India cannot build a road and open the trade route there.

PM Oli and Indian Prime Minister Modi will be attending the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit. PM Oli will be living for China on coming Saturday.

Public debt increased

In recent years, Nepali successive governments have to draw more public debt after failing to meet their targets of revenue collection and growing expenditure. At the end of Nepali month of Srawan of current fiscal year 2025/26 beginning July 16, the government has drawn Rs. 2 kharba 45 arba and 10 karod.

According to the Public Debt Management Office, the total debt reached Rs. 26 kharba 83 arba and 60 Karod which would be 43.94% of total Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
