Kathmandu, Aug 14: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is set to visit China on Bhadra 14 (August 30). He will embark on a four-day visit until Bhadra 18 (September 3), during which he is scheduled to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping on the final day.
Prime Minister Oli is travelling to China to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit to be held in Tianjin from August 31 to September 1. He will address the summit as a distinguished speaker, according to sources.
On September 3, Prime Minister Oli will attend a luncheon hosted by President Xi Jinping before returning to Kathmandu the same day.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Nepali Embassy in Beijing have intensified preparations for the visit. During his stay, Oli will also hold talks with President Xi Jinping. Nepal has been a dialogue partner of the SCO since 2020.
The SCO comprises 10 member states, Belarus, China, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. In addition, there are 14 dialogue partners, including Nepal, Turkey, Sri Lanka, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Cambodia, Egypt, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE. This will mark Nepal’s highest-level participation in an SCO summit to date.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also attend the summit, with China reportedly according high priority to his participation. Russian President Vladimir Putin and other top leaders from member states will also be present.
