Kathmandu, Oct 18: Nepal Police have arrested Rabi Lamichhane, President of the Rastriya Swatantra Party.
Police took former Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Lamichhane into custody from his party office, Banasthali, according to Acting Spokesperson of RSP, Manish Jha.
The District Court, Kaski, granted permission to the Nepal Police to arrest Lamichhane for investigating the accusation of embezzling funds from Surya Darshan Cooperatives in Pokhara.
A police team arrived at the RSP party office with an arrest warrant.
The District Police Office, Kaski, has is investigating Lamichhane and the founder chair of Surya Darshan Cooperatives, Gitendra Babu (GB) Rai for their alleged collusion in diverting money from the cooperative to Gorkha Media Network.
Just before his arrest, President Lamichhane told party cadres and media person at the party office that he had not committed any crime and would cooperate with the judicial process regarding the allegations against him.
He also argued that his arrest was a setback to the nation’s progress.
RSP President Lamichhane to be taken to Kaski after arrest
President of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Rabi Lamichhane, who was issued an arrest warrant on the charge of being involved in the misuse of Pokhara’s Suryadarshan Cooperative funds, is to be taken to Kaski after arrest.
Spokesperson of the Nepal Police, SSP Dan Bahadur Karki informed that the police have taken forward further legal process following the issuance of arrest warrant against him from the Kaski District Court.
“The police will put forward actions against him following the arrest in connection with the case of Kaski Court”, he said. SSP Karki however did not divulge the plan of the Police to arrest former Home Minister Lamichhane.
It may be noted that the Kaski Court today had permitted the police to investigate into the alleged involvement of Lamichhane over the misuse of cooperative deposits.
The District Police Office, Kaski has been probing into the case of misuse of funds brought from Sudarshan Cooperative to the Gorkha Media Network in cahoots with the founder of the cooperative, Geetendra Babu (GB) Rai. #rabi #police #arrest #nepal
