Police bust edible oil underweight scam in Lalitpur

Kathmandu, May 9: Omkar Oil Industries, operating in Mahadev Khola, Lele of Lalitpur district, has been accused of selling underweight edible oil packets, allegedly cheating consumers.

The Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office launched an investigation after receiving a tip-off that one-litre and 500 ml packets of Chhahari and Omkar brand sunflower oil contained less oil than the quantity stated on the packaging.

During the investigation, police found that the packets weighed below the labelled amount. Following the findings, police detained 43-year-old operator Bijaya Shrestha of Patan, who had been managing the industry.

Police also raided several storage locations and seized large quantities of substandard sunflower oil cartons.

According to Superintendent of Police Rameshwar Karki, authorities recovered 905 cartons of Chhahari and Omkar sunflower oil, including 200 cartons from Mahadevsthan in Lele, 530 cartons from Imadol and 175 cartons from Thasikhel.

Police said the suspect and seized goods have been handed over to the District Police Range Lalitpur for further investigation and legal action on fraud-related charges. #Nepal #fraud
