Kathmandu, Nov 22: National Assembly Chairperson Ganesh Prasad Timilsina has expressed the belief that it would be helpful to achieve sustainable development goals if we work together for poverty alleviation.

At a programme organised by Belt and Road Cooperation for Development in South Asia here on Wednesday, Chair Timilsina said it would be helpful to achieve SDGs if the country is able to reduce existing poverty.

He lauded the initiatives of the Chinese government to encourage use of its successful practices in South Asian countries including Nepal as a good neighbour, adding it would help in economic development of the South Asian Countries and improve living standard of the people.

The NA Chair pointed out that significant success in poverty alleviation could be achieved if South Asian Countries including Nepal could move ahead adopting good practices and learnings from China’s successful experiences.

“It is necessary to implement projects correcting the weakness, if any, in implementation of Belt and Road Initiatives, running projects in such a way that is suitable for their condition of different countries and to get maximum benefits of the people of these countries”, he mentioned.

Chair Timilsina shared that this project would be the important means for poverty alleviation and development partnership.

Similarly, Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Chen Sung, at a programme on ‘China-South Asia Poverty Alleviation and Development Cooperation Forum’ said China has been actively conducting international cooperation related to poverty with global importance with its modernization.

Talking about different dimensions of China-Nepal relations, the Chinese Ambassador mentioned that during China visit of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ both the countries agreed to focus their attention in exchanging support to reduce poverty, to improve living standard of the people and revival of rural areas.
