
Kathmandu, June 4: The Prachanda Cup National Women’s Volleyball Tournament is set to take place in Pokhara from June 10 to 14, as announced by the organizing body, National Sports Academy, during a press conference held at Pokhara Stadium on Wednesday.
The competition will feature six top national women’s teams, including departmental teams from the Nepal Police, Armed Police Force (APF), and Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC), alongside teams from Gandaki Province, Everest Academy, and New Diamond Academy.
The tournament will be played in a round-robin league format, with matches hosted at the Pokhara Stadium. The champions will receive a cash prize of Rs 600,000, while the runners-up and the third-placed team will earn Rs 300,000 and Rs 100,000, respectively. Additionally, the best player will be awarded Rs 30,000, and outstanding players in various categories will each receive Rs 20,000.
The organizers have committed to covering the transportation and accommodation expenses for all participating players.
Speaking at the press conference, Shiva Koirala Jwala, President of the All-Nepal Sports Federation, expressed that the tournament aims to further strengthen the foundation of volleyball as one of Nepal’s most popular sports. He also shared plans to expand the scope of the competition in the coming years.
Chairman of the National Sports Academy, Deepak Koirala, highlighted the significant role played by the government led by Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ in declaring volleyball as Nepal’s national sport.
The tournament, he stated, is organized in honor of that declaration, symbolizing the connection between the republic, Prachanda, and volleyball.
The press conference was attended by board members of the National Sports Council, Anjan Dhamala and Prakash Kumar Kusari, along with Yam Gurung, Vice President of the Nepal Volleyball Association, among others. #nepal #volleyball #prachanda
