Prachanda instructs to vote Sudurpashchim government

Dhangadhi, March 5: The CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman and Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has instructed Provincial Members of the party to support the Sudurpashchim government. The provincial government will be taking vote of confidence today.

Prime Minister Prachanda has also appealed to cast vote of confidence to preserve the eight-party alliance.

Khagaraj Bhatta, the leader of the Maoist party in Sudurpaschim Province, said that he had received a request from the party Chairman Prachanda to give a vote of confidence.

Chief Minister Kamal Bahadur Shah is taking the vote of confidence today. A meeting of the provincial assembly has been called today to take the vote of confidence at 1 pm.

Shah, who was appointed as the Chief Minister on February 9, is going to take the vote of confidence today according to the constitutional provision that he has to take the vote of confidence within 30 days.

In the 53-member Sudurpaschim Provincial Assembly, the Chief Minister needs at least 27 MPs to get a vote of confidence. Out of the eight parties in the alliance, the Congress has 19 MPs, Nagarik Unmukti Party has 7 MPs, and CPN (Unified Socialist) Party has 4 MPs. Besides, one independent MP will also be supporting the government.

According to the clause 3 of Article 168 of the Constitution, Shah, the leader of the Congress Parliamentary Party, was appointed as the Chief Minister.
