The President made the House call in accordance with Article 93 of the Constitution upon the recommendation of the Council of Ministers.

The press statement was issued by Spokesperson at President’s Office, Shailaja Regmi Bhattarai.

The meeting of the Council of Ministers held Thursday decided to recommend the President to summon joint session of the federal parliament for coming May 10.

Minister for Communications and Information Technology and government Spokesperson, Rekha Sharma, shared that the Cabinet meeting decided to recommend President Ram Chandra Paudel to call the budget session of the parliament from May 10.

Earlier, the government abruptly prorogued the winter session of parliament after main opposition party – Nepali Congress – was obstructing the parliament session demanding to form a parliamentary probe committee on embazzelment of cooperatives’ money.

Congress was particularly focusing on the alleged involvement of Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane on mishandling of millions of rupees from different cooperatives. However, Rabi and the Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ both denied any involvement of Rabi in cooperatives scam.

In the upcoming budget session, what would be the Congress’s stand? It’s not clear. But sources close to Nepali Congress have said that the party will raise the issue again in the parliament.
