Kathmandu, Dec 10: President Ram Chandra Paudel has said the parliamentary democratic governance system based on pluralism would be consolidated only when human rights are respected, protected and promoted.
In a message of best wishes on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights on December 10 this year, he said no citizens would be deprived of human rights along with the reliable rule of law.
The Human Rights Day is observed across the world every year today in commemoration of the issuance of Universal Declaration of Human Rights on December 10, 1948. Various programmes are being organized today to observe the Day in Nepal too.
The human rights day would be meaningful only if rights, freedom and justice of the deprived communities are ensured, he said.
He also stressed the need for taking initiatives in fully implementing the fundamental rights of citizens as guaranteed by the Constitution of Nepal.
Similarly, Vice President Ramsahay Prasad Yadav said promises, pledges, commitments, dignity and rights mentioned in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights had been continuously attacked.
Extending the message of best wishes on this occasion, he said there was a need to respect the values and rights contained in the Declaration as a guideline for collective works.
Saying Nepal was actively working to ensure human rights and social justice, he said all citizens of the country should come together to end all kinds of chaos, disagreements, distortions and anomalies.
Also, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ said the government was continuously at work to fulfil the commitments of international human rights treaties and conventions ratified by Nepal.
On the occasion, he said the government was effortful in ensuring human rights by making laws as per the provision of the fundamental rights in the constitution to address the causes of ethnic, regional, gender and traditional discriminations.
The government was committed to developing the culture of human rights while respecting and protecting human rights along with the life, dignity, equality and freedom of each person, he said.
On the occasion, PM Prachanda also extended best wishes to the governmental and non-governmental mechanisms, human rights defenders, civil society, journalists and representatives of diplomatic missions who are working days and nights to protect human rights.
Likewise, Speaker of the House of Representatives (HoR) Devraj Ghimire has said that Nepal’s parliament was partnering and coordinating with the National Human Rights Commission, other constitutional bodies and civil society for the protection and promotion of human rights.
In a message of best wishes on the occasion of the Human Rights Day today, Speaker Ghimire said that efforts are being undertaken to draft and amend the laws through the lens of human rights perspective.
