Kathmandu, Nov 22: Press Council Nepal has sought clarification from 17 media outlets for disseminating information that caused panic among the people.
Issuing a press statement, PCN sought clarification why the media including some YouTube channels used incendiary words which could foment terror among people.
It was against PCN’s code of conduct. These media have been asked to furnish clarification within 24 hours on why spread rumour and misinformation.
The Nepal Police’s Cyber Bureau has been written to the PCN to investigate such media and make the media take down the content that violates the code of conduct.
The contents that spread rumour, foment conflict, violence and hatred and violates decency are against the media code of conduct, the PCN reminded.
The PCN also urged all media persons and internet users not to involve in the activities that spread hatred and violence, and breach individual privacy.
