Prime Minister KP Oli discuss with Election Commission officials on election preparations

KATHMANDU: The Election Commission has urged all political parties and the government to facilitate for the smooth functioning of the upcoming general election.

The Commission was discussing with the Chairman of Nepal Communist Party (NCP) and the Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli at it’s head office at Kantipath, Kathmandu.

PM Oli was in Commission’s office today to take stock of the preparation of the election, and to clear about the party dispute.

Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Thapaliya briefed about the work done by the commission so far and the forthcoming action plan. Chief Commissioner Thapaliya had asked the Prime Minister if there was no legal problem in holding the election but whether the political environment would affect it.

The commission had submitted a preliminary estimate of the election expenses to the prime minister stating that it was working on the election procedure, code of conduct and internal preparations. The commission had also submitted a letter to Finance Minister Bishnu Poudel stating that it could cost around Rs 7 billion.

Chief Commissioner Thapaliya also informed that they are doing their homework of calling international observers for election security, technical work, international recognition and election observation.
