Kathmandu, August 18: A discussion has been held between Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and Speaker Devraj Ghimire on the issue of holding the meeting of the Federal Parliament, which has been stalled for a long time, on a regular basis.

In the discussion held at the Prime Minister’s residence, Baluwatar on Friday, Prime Minister Dahal has said that he will take the initiative to open up the disruption of the House. He said, “I will play a role in opening the House. You too. We have to agree soon.”

The main opposition CPN UML have been demanding to form a high level commission or parliamentary committee to probe the gold smuggling scams. However, the government looks adamant that the investigation will be carried out from government’s competent agencies. Even the government has clarified that there will be not interference on the investigation.

But CPN UML has repeatedly pointed doubts on fair investigation. The CPN UML has been protesting in the House over the formation of the probe committee which has stalled all the activities of the House.

In today’s meeting, Speaker Ghimire drew the attention of Prime Minister Dahal saying that it was not good for the House not to run. “Members of Parliament have asked for time to speak at the House. MPs wanted to draw attention on natural disasters and other pertinent issues of the country. There is no situation in which the House can move forward without party consensus”, Speaker Ghimire said.

Speaker Ghimire pointed out that there are also widespread complaints that laws have not been enacted in Parliament because the leadership of the parliamentary committee could not be selected. He said, “As Speaker, I have responsibly taken initiatives for consensus building. But the result did not come out. Even when the top leaders sat for hours, there was no agreement.”
