Printing of pending smart licenses over, new ones within 24 hours



Kathmandu, July 16: The long-awaited printing of smart driving licenses has been accomplished successfully, according to the Ministry of Information and Communication.

New licenses can now be printed and delivered within 24 hours of receiving essential details from the Department of Transport, the Ministry added.

The undertaking was carried out in two-phase agreements among the Information Ministry, the Security Printing Centre, and the Department of Transport Management.

It finally resulted in printing of a total of 2.7 million smart licenses.The Ministry further informed that the first phase was over on October 29, 2025 which recorded printing of 1.2 million licenses. The second phase begun on April 17, 2026 worked for the pending 1.5 million applications.

As the second phase draws to a close on July 16, the backlog of license printing has been fully cleared. The Security Printing Centre is equipped to print smart licenses daily, managing some 3,000 to 5,000 requests from the customers who have successfully passed their trials and paid the fees.

The Ministry is also making collaboration with the provincial governments to finalize agreements for the printing of various security documents, including driver’s licenses, citizenship certificates and national identity cards.Thi
