Kathmandu, March 9: An investigation commission formed to probe the incidents related to the Gen-Z protests on September 8 and 9 last year has recommended the charges of criminal case against several high-level officials, including former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak and retired Inspector General of Nepal Police Mr Chandra Kuber Khapung.
The commission has also advised the government to conduct a criminal investigation against the then Chief District Officer of Kathmandu, Chhabi Rijal.
The probe committee, led by former judge Gauri Bahadur Karki with members Bigyan Raj Sharma and Bishweshwar Prasad Bhandari, was formed on to investigate the incidents.
The commission submitted its report on Sunday to Prime Minister Sushila Karki. According to a member of the commission, the report concludes that the political and security leadership at the time should be held accountable.
The report also mentions the role of Rabi Lamichhane, chairperson of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, particularly regarding the incident on September 9, 2025 when he left Nakkhu Prison in Lalitpur. It also references the role of former Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balen Shah.
A total of 76 people were killed during the Gen-Z protests on September 8 and 9, 2025, according to the report. #nepal #genz
