Public’s first’s government is police: CM Karki

Biratnagar, Oct 16: Chief Minister of Koshi Province Hikmat Kumar Karki recognized the role of police as the first government of the public and thus said that the police should not disappoint the public they serve.

Addressing a celebratory programme organized by the Koshi Province Police Office in Biratnagar today marking the 69the Police Day, CM Karki commended the international reputation Nepal Police had earned by solving crimes and bringing the culprits to justice.

Stressing on the need for the Nepal Police to upgrade itself with the changing times to maintain its credibility, Karki pledged to well equip the Koshi Province Police Organization with adequate resources within two years once the police adjustment process is carried out.

The CM saw the need for police to upgrade itself in a timely manner in line with the advancement in the information technology. Prodding the federal government to introduce Police Act at the earliest, he pressed for timely adjustment of provincial police organization.

CM Karki noted the ”vital” role of police in maintaining law and order, good-governance and improving governance system. He, however, lamented over the lack of resources and means facing the Nepal Police despite it bearing a proud history of seven decades.

According to him, the provincial government had hugely invested in the police organization since the enforcement of federalism.

Similarly, Minister for Internal Affairs and Law Leela Ballav Adhikari acknowledged the role of police in disaster response efforts apart from maintaining law and order.

Emphasizing continued improvement in police’s efficiency and professionalism, he shared that the provincial government had supported the province police in construction of 58 buildings, 14 police vans and hundreds of motorcycles.

Likewise, Biratnagar Metropolitan City’s Mayor Nagesh Koirala insisted that the police should not give in to any external pressure and influences while delivering its duties.

Chief Secretary of the Provincial Government Kedarnath Sharma appreciated the positive perception of Nepal Police among the public.

In the programme presided by SSP Jay Sapkota, Sushila Sapkota was honoured with Rs 25,000 in recognition of her contributions in women and children sector.

Kul Bahadur Thapa, Assistant Sub Inspector of Police working in Paanchthar district was also feted with cash prize Rs 25,000 for his excellent performance in traffic management sector.

On the occasion, Sub Inspector of Police Gopal Bahadur Thapa was felicitated with Rs 100,000 for his outstanding performance in the Koshi Province.

Dedication of police inspirational: CM Kandel

Meanwhile, Chief Minister of Karnali Province Yam Lal Kandel has said Nepal Police has been working with high morale for the security of the country and people.

At a programme organized on the occasion of 69th Police Day, Chief Minister Kandel underlined that the dedication of police personnel deputed for the security of the country and people keeping their personal and family responsibility aside is the source of inspiration for all.

He mentioned, “The reputation gained by the Nepal Police in the world in the sector of crime control and investigation is the asset of our nation and the Nepali citizens. I want to thank the entire police organization for fulfilling its responsibilities given by the nation and working efficiently at international levels despite limited means and resources.”

Sharing that it was necessary to strengthen internal security system for the country’s development, prosperity and good governance, the Chief Minister expressed confidence that police was capable and would show its strength to control all types of unwanted and wrong activities so that rule of law is ensured.

He laid emphasis that the Nepal Police should be more capable to utilize maximum the technology-friendly mechanism and method in crime control and investigation.

The Chief Minister further said though the constitution had made arrangement that province police would work under province, it has not been materialized for lack of laws. #NepalPolice #nepal
