Pokhara, Oct 24: Rabi Lamichhane, the former Home Minister and President of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has been granted an additional 7-days in custody for investigation in a cooperative fraud case.
This extension of custody was announced after his appearance in the Kaski District Court, following his arrest on Friday.
Lamichhane is accused of being involved in the misappropriation of millions of rupees from the Surya Darshan Cooperative in Pokhara.
Alongside him, former Deputy Inspector General of Nepal Police (DIG) Chhabilal Joshi was also presented in court. The allegations involve collusion with Gitendra Babu (GB) Rai, the founder of the cooperative, in a scheme to misappropriate funds through the Gorkha Media Network.
The Kaski District Police Office is currently conducting the investigation.
Earlier, a parliamentary probe committee found Rabi and others guilty on handling of the cooperative’s funds. And, the government also ordered to competing agencies, including Nepal Police, to carry forward the investigation and brought to justice.
Meanwhile, a crowd gathered in Pokhara to protest against the detention of Rabi Lamichhane, and they were demanding to immediately release him as they claimed that the case against Rabi was politically motivated. #rabi #arrest #court #pokhara
