Rabi Lamichhane remanded in custody 10 more days

Rabi Lamichhane

Kathmandu, Nov 5:  The Kaski District Court has granted permission to extend the detention of Rabi Lamichhane, former managing director of Gorkha Media Network, former Home Minister, and President of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), by 10 more days for investigation into alleged embezzlement of cooperative funds.

Judge Chandrakant Paudel of the Kaski District Court issued the order to extend Lamichhane’s detention for a third time. Along with Lamichhane, former Deputy Inspector General Chhabilal Joshi, Lila Pachhai, and Ram Bahadur Khanal, who are also accused in the Suryadarshan Cooperative fund embezzlement case, have had their detention periods extended.

Lamichhane was first detained on Nepali month of Kartik 2 and was granted extensions on Kartik 4 and Kartik 8. The court had to postpone the hearing due to the Tihar holidays, which is why he was presented before the court only today.

Lamichhane has reportedly denied taking a loan from Suryadarshan during his nine days of questioning, despite being investigated on charges of organized crime and money laundering related to the cooperative’s embezzlement. rabi #nepal #cooperative
