Kathmandu: The Constitutional Bench of the Supreme Court has cleared the way for the Chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Rabi Lamichhane, to take the oath of office of the member of the House of Representatives.

The apex court, however, ordered to call both the petitioner and Lamichhane for discussion over the citizenship issue.

The writ petitioner sought an interim order to stay the oath until the citizenship dispute is resolved. The Constitutional Court has refused to grant an interim order.

Although Lamichhane took American citizenship and later renounced that citizenship, he did not apply to the government office to activate his Nepali citizenship, so a writ was registered in the court saying that he is not a Nepali citizen.

Lamichhane was elected for the member of House of Representatives from Chitwan district with wide margin, with popular vote.
