Rainfall causes over 2 billion rupees damage in Koshi Province



Biratnagar, Nov 9: The Agriculture Development Directorate in Biratnagar has announced that persistent rain has resulted in damage to paddy crops exceeding Rs 2.5 billion in Koshi Province.

The region experienced continuous rainfall during the third week of October. This relentless precipitation also harmed 2,000 metric tons of vegetables across 200 hectares in Sunsari, valued at approximately 40 million rupees, according to Purnamaya Gurung, the Directorate’s information officer.

Information Officer Gurung detailed that in Jhapa, 4,364 hectares; in Morang, 3,421 hectares; in Sunsari, 2,851 hectares; in Udayapur, 323 hectares; in Ilam, 268 hectares; in Panchthar, 144 hectares; in Taplejung, 120 hectares; in Dhankuta, 118 hectares; in Tehrathum, 157 hectares; in Bhojpur, 250 hectares; in Khotang, 200 hectares; in Okhaldhunga, 76 hectares; in Solukhumbu, 15 hectares; and in Sankhuwasabha, 125 hectares of farmland have suffered damage due to the rainfall.

In total, Koshi Province had 268,765 hectares of land planted with paddy, with unseasonal rains affecting 12,432 hectares of paddy and 200 hectares of vegetable crops.

By district, Morang incurred losses of Rs. 781,156,000, Sunsari Rs. 453,172,000, Udayapur Rs. 4, 00,00,000, Udayapur Rs. 46,253,000, Ilam Rs. 32,141,000, Panchthar Rs. 12,217,000, Taplejung Rs. 12,243,000, Dhankuta Rs. 13,940,000, Tehrathum Rs. 13,320,000, Bhojpur Rs. 26,492,000, Khotang Rs. 16,110,000, Okhaldhunga Rs. 6,802,000, Solukhumbu Rs. 1,466,000, and Sankhuwasabha Rs. 11,187,000 in paddy crop losses.
