Kathmandu, July 24: Recent heavy rainfall across the country has led to significant disruptions in transportation, with numerous roads and highways affected by landslides and erosion.
As reported by the Nepal Police, nine road sections are currently completely blocked, impacting travel and logistics across the region. Notably, the Khurkot-Nepalthok-Katunjebensi road on the BP Highway has been closed from 6:00 pm to 4:00 am due to flood risks, while the Kanti Highway has imposed a ban on all vehicle types from 5:00 pm to 5:00 am throughout the rainy season.
Specific areas experiencing complete road blockages include the Mechi Highway in Ilam Municipality, the Arani Highway in Sindhupalchok, and several other critical routes such as the Kaligandaki Corridor, Ghorahi-Thwang Shahid Highway, and Mid-Hill Highway. The landslides have rendered these roads impassable, complicating access for residents and emergency services.
However, an alternative route has been established for the Lamasanghu-Ramechhap road section, which was affected by river erosion, allowing for some continuity in travel despite the adverse conditions.
