Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya has argued that there have been reforms the election management after making the policy to regulate social networking sites.
At a discussion programme on “House of Representatives and Province Assembly Election 2079, Mass Media Monitoring Report” here Thursday, the Chief Election Commissioner shared that cooperation with the Facebook and TikTok prior to the election ensured good results from the regulation.
He was of the view that social networking sites should be monitored by the Press Council Nepal by bringing under its scope and added that regulation and management of the social networking sites is imperative since they are being developed as the form of mass media.
Thapaliya also suggested that the Council should develop such a software to obtain an access to all unauthentic contents that are published and transmitted.
Also speaking at the event, former Chief Justice Sushila Karki shared that the recently-held elections were held in a peaceful manner compared to the past ones, as she was during her tours in Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur for monitoring of the polls.
Council’s Chairperson Bal Krishna Basnet said that the Council worked by constituting a mechanism to control fake news and the mechanism bode well in the result.RSS
