Reliable North-South Highway necessary for all sector development: Finance Minister



Sudurpaschim, Dec 8: Minister for Finance Rameshwor Prasad Khanal has emphasized the need of reliable highway to connect north and south for overall development of the country.

Inaugurating the Sudurpaschim Festival 2082 organized by the Kailali Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Dhangadhi today, he viewed that development has not gained momentum in Sudurpaschim province in absence of quality and reliable north-south road network.

“North-South connectivity is indispensable it catalyzes diverse geographies, cultures and capabilities for economic enhancement. Development here has come across challenges in lack of connectivity”, the Finance Minister noted.

Highlighting the need of utilizing local resources for mega projects, Minister Khanal said he was working in pace to accomplish the incomplete projects at the earliest.

“The Gen Z voice has imparted a message to steer ahead the country to change. We have to conduct the election in the stated date (5 March 2026) to institutionalize the aspiration of change of neo generation. We do not have adequate time and limitation. However, we are effortful to expedite the development works in a rhythm”, Khanal asserted.

Also speaking on the occasion, Chairperson of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) Chandra Prasad Dhakal has called for all-side engagement for the development of Sudurpaschim and pledged to play constructive role from his end for the same.

Mayor of Dhangadhi Sub-metropolitan City, Gopal Hamal said the latest data has shown increasing poverty in Sudurpaschim and emphasized on augmenting economic activities by spurring investment in result-yielding projects.

Likewise, Chairperson of the Kailali Chamber of Comerce and Industry Pushkar Raj Ojha expressed concern over dillydally in addressing the demands for the development of the region through annual festivals.

On the occasion, various personalities having contributions to the development of the province through different sectors such as journalism, health service, language and literature, industry and trade, social service, education, tourism, agriculture, folklore, sports and cricket were felicitated.
