Religious leader Kafle arrested on charges of cheating

Kathmandu, June 28: A so-called religious guru Purushottam Kafle, a 48-year-old resident of Madhyapur Thimi Municipality-4, Ghathaghar, has been arrested by Nepal Police on charges of cheating millions of rupees from the victims. According to preliminary investigation, he has collected nearly Rs. 50 million and more than 100 tola of gold. He claimed himself as Shiva Suta Gauri Bhakta whose motive was to empower women.

Based on the complaint, police deployed from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CIB) Maharajganj arrested him from Kanchanpur Gaddachouki of western Nepal and brought him to Kathmandu, said Deputy Inspector General of Police Kuber Kadayat, Police Spokesperson.

It has been found that Kafle also opened an organization called Hamro Abhiyan Nepal and Om Ashram Nepal in Kathmandu, encouraging the victims to invest money, holding seminars and making them members of the organization, and showing the temptation of a lot of profit.

A complaint was filed in the police saying that they cheated by threatening to make more investments without guaranteeing the investment and threatening to kill family members if they did not. According to the police, necessary investigation is being conducted on him in the criminal case related to fraud, criminal treachery and criminal gain (extortion) from the District Court Kathmandu with a deadline of seven days.
