Revenue collection falls short of target at Birgunj Customs

Birgunj, Dec 6: The Birgunj Customs Office, the main import point of Nepal, collected Rs 49.92 billion in revenue during the first four months of the current fiscal year 2081/82 BS, falling short of the Rs 70.44 billion target set by the Customs Department.

According to Chief Customs Administrator Dipak Lamichhane, the shortfall was primarily due to the large number of public holidays in the months of Ashoj and Kartik. The office generates 70% of its revenue from the import of petroleum products, industrial raw materials, and vehicles.

Revenue collection for the individual months stood at Rs 12.16 billion in Shrawan, Rs 13.23 billion in Bhadra, Rs 13.47 billion in Ashoj, and Rs 11.04 billion in Kartik.

In comparison, during the same period of the previous fiscal year, the office collected Rs 49.18 billion.
