Kathmandu, April 2: Leader of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) parliamentary party, Gyan Bahadur Shahi, has urged the government to remain accountable to the people and effectively implement the rule of law.

Speaking during the first session of the House of Representatives on Wednesday, Shahi called on the government to act responsibly and guide the nation toward prosperity. He stressed the need to uncover the truth behind the incidents that occurred during the Gen Z uprising on September 8 and 9.

Emphasising democratic values and principles, he said governance must strengthen—not diminish—the hopes and trust of the people. “Despite multiple political changes in Nepal, the condition of the people has not improved as expected. All corruption-related files should be opened. With not only party shifts but also generational changes in politics, governance must adapt accordingly,” he said.

Shahi also called for timely justice for victims of cases such as Nirmala Pant and Inisha BK, and highlighted the urgent need to create employment opportunities for youth within the country.

He urged all political parties to unite in ensuring good governance and the rule of law, and demanded that citizenship be provided to members of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA). He further stressed the importance of prioritising development in Karnali Province, noting that it lags behind other regions.

Mahabir Pun Calls for Depoliticising Universities

Independent lawmaker Mahabir Pun has stressed the need to free universities from political interference. Speaking in the same session, he said that all 18 universities in operation should be kept free from political influence, with a stronger focus on improving the quality of education.

Pun emphasised prioritising science and technology to drive national development and create employment opportunities for young people.

He also called for reforms in education regulations to address distortions in school-level education and expressed concern over increasing political interference in school management committees.

Additionally, he highlighted the need to end political influence within the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT), stressing that technical education institutions must function independently to ensure effectiveness and credibility. #nepal #House
